Dr. Sherif Saleh, 34, who has a practice on Main Street in Bridgeport, was charged Wednesday with assault, the risk of injury to a child and disorderly conduct, said Lt. Robert Kalamaras.
Kalamaras said police became involved in the ongoing domestic dispute after the wife was pushed down the stairs, colliding with the couple's 8-year-old daughter as she fell.
"During a forensic interview with the daughter she confirmed that ongoing domestic violence was taking place," Kalamaras said.
After the incident, in which the wife received numerous bruises, the woman complained that Saleh was preventing her from seeing the couple's two children. At that point, the Department of Children and Families stepped in, he added.
"Because children are involved we really can't comment on the what is taking place," Kalamaras said.
Police did confirm that Saleh moved in another woman who he told police he had a "relationship" with and her son.
He was released after posting $75,000 bond.
